Madre Tierra - final illustr.

Description

illustration for CD cover and booklet, for venezuelan band Gran Coquivacoa. The album is called "Madre Tierra", meaning "mother eath", so this is what i set out to convey in the art.

This is the finished illustration, used for the central pages spread / foldout (4 pages wide).

i used the line drawing shown in the previous picture, and "colored" the girl's body with pieces of skin from photographs, all trying to respect and comply with the laws of optics and lights and shadows and stuff...

the background is a photograph of a forest, heavily modified upon with a filter (i don't remember which one :S)

the hair and all other details and elements were colored in photoshop and then i applied some other filters, i think the same one whose name i can't remember...

the CD cover was made with the part of this illustration that shows the girl.

that little conga drum you see at the base of the "hair" was... oh well, a "client" thing. he wanted a musical instrument in there, so i placed the most natural and primordial instrument i think there is: a drum. when the illustration was finished, he said: "you can take the drum out, i don't really want it there anymore"... to which i said: "too late, drum stays".

after 10+ years working directly with clients, i've learned a thing or two and i am still learning... good thing is: when you create artwork for CDs, you work with musicians, who are also artists, so the process and end result is usually more satisfying than doing work for engineers or lawyers.

i'll be posting more of the CD's i've designed... thanks for stopping by!
